Knock Knock. It’s Alpa and Fuji? – Mounting Alpa Lens to a Fujifilm GFX Body
Before you get too excited, it’s important to understand that when it comes to marrying a Fuji camera body to Alpa lenses, there are significant limitations. While a Fujifilm GFX is a mirrorless body, there is still more depth to any camera body compared to mounting a digital back, with that large sensor snuggling right up to the body, just a few millimeters away. Any camera body pushes that sensor further away. This means that a lens in Alpa Long Barrel mount has no chance of achieving infinity focus. Nor does an Alpa lens in Short Barrel 17. However – lenses in Short Barrel 34 and longer can achieve focus, but … we’re going to have to take the Alpa body out of the mix.
What you see here is:
- Fujifilm GFX 100s Body
- Alpa Fuji GFX Adapter
- Alpa 11mm FPS Dual Hook Spacer (can also be a tilt spacer!)
- Alpagon/Rodenstock 138mm/6.5 SB51 Lens
Now, first off, there is no shift (there can be tilt, though), so the benefit here is that the lenses themselves can work with this camera. In this case, we have a client who shoots aerial work, and they own some Alpa lenses and they also own a Fujifilm GFX 100s. Their style of shooting is to set the lens at infinity and have it stay there. This can be challenging with the Fujifilm focus by wire system. So they asked how they could mount their Alpa lenses in copal shutter and ease of infinity focus sustainment to their GFX 100s body. They don’t need movements, they just want this quality of lens with an ease of use for infinity focus.
Some of the lenses that are known to be available in Alpa SB34:
- Schneider-Kreuznach 210mm SB34
- Schneider-Kreuznach 180mm SB34
- Schneider-Kreuznach 150mm SB34
- Schneider-Kreuznach 120mm SB34
- Rodenstock HR-W 50mm SB34
- Rodenstock HR-W/SW 90mm SB34
- Rodenstock HR-S 100mm SB34
- Rodenstock HR-SW 138mm SB51
- Rodenstock HR-S 180mm SB34/51
There may be a few that we have missed …
And these are all compatible with the appropriate accessories and any Fuji GFX body – GFX 50R, GFX 50S, GFX 100, GFX 100s, GFX 50S II.
Bottom line, these lenses can be used in combination with a Fujfilm GFX camera.
Merry Christmas!
