How Compact is the Fujifilm GFX100RF?

Recently, I got the chance to try out the new Fujifilm GFX100RF. After unboxing it, the first thing I did was hold it up next to all the cameras in Capture Integration’s rental inventory. Comparing dimensions on paper is (kind of) helpful, but I’m a person who just needs to see it. Fujifilm boasts the largest sensor ever packed into a lightweight rangefinder body, but how big does it look next to other rangefinders and 100MP competitors?

Next to the rangefinder Leica Q3

The Fujifilm GFX100RF’s strongest competitor in terms of size and weight is the Leica Q3. The Fujifilm GFX100RF has 40 more megapixels, but both weigh approximately 26 ounces. I accidentally left the Leica Q3’s lens hood on for this visual comparison. However, they were both weighed in without the lens hood and with the battery inside. Even with the lens hoods off, the GFX100RF still has a shorter width from the front of the lens to the back LCD.

Next to the 100MP Hasselblad X2D 100C

The Hasselblad X2D 100c isn’t a rangefinder, but it is a 100MP competitor. For the fairest comparison, I paired it with the most compact XCD lens, the 28 P. Together, they weighed 40.3 ounces, nearly 15 ounces heavier than the approximately 26-ounce Fujifilm GFX100RF. Inspecting the dimensions visually, the Hasselblad X2D 100c is a bit taller and far more chunky. Feel free to watch the video at the bottom of this article to see me shoving each of these cameras into my jacket pocket. The X2D’s comparable bulkiness is indisputable.

Next to the 100MP Fujifilm GFX100S

I would call the Fujifilm GFX100S an “older cousin” to the Fujifilm GFX100RF. Similar to the Hasselblad X2D 100c, it’s not a rangefinder but comparable because of its 100MP sensor. I chose to pair the Fujifilm GFX100S with a 50mm lens simply because it’s the most compact. However, just the GFX100S body alone is close to the width of GFX100RF in its entirety. The GFX100S was the heaviest of all the cameras mentioned in this article, weighing in at 43.5 ounces, about 17 ounces heavier than the GFX100RF.

Bianca’s closing thoughts

Before unboxing this camera, I thought surely Fujifilm was stretching to classify it as a “compact rangefinder.” I’ve crammed my fair share of 100MP cameras into backpacks and cases. They’re chunky and heavy. However, this camera really surprised me. It was just as light as the 60MP Leica Q3. You can see in my video below, I could pull it in and out of my jacket pocket as easily as a point-and-shoot.
