Top 10 Things I learned at Capture Integration
Sammy Castillo has recently wrapped up his three-month internship with the Atlanta office. As he begins his next adventure, he leaves us with his parting words in the form of a Top 10 list – working as a Capture Integration intern. It was a pleasure working together, Sammy. Don’t be a stranger – keep us posted on your favorite BBQ, burgers and famous tacos from the road. I’m sure that you’ll have some stories……
You can easily expect that I would talk about the digital backs, software, hardware, and all the technical things I learned during my 3 month internship. The pure sense of knowing and recalling a common issue, and quickly finding a solution was a far fetched idea for me during the first few days. Hearing about the various Hasselblad V, Mamiya, Hasselblad H, and Contax versions was initially hard to grasp – especially with just looking at the hooks on the digital back.
But the fact of the matter remains, I learned more about LIFE than I did about anything else with this company. With that I present my top ten:
10. Always Double-Check Everything
Never let your confidence take over your wits. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
9. If You Can Do It – Do It!
Don’t hesitate to ask questions, don’t hesitate to step in and help, and never let your pride stand in your way.
8. Be Patient
As much as we want the quickness of life to happen, we must have that patience to focus and really refine what we are seeking.
7. Don’t Assume
This comes without explanation.
6. Be Prepared
Always be five steps ahead of any question or doubt that you may have. Some of the easiest things come from being prepared and knowing that you took the time to familiarize yourself with the tasks you are about to face.
5. Move On
There’s no sense in holding on to grudges, losing something (or someone) over bickering and fighting, because in the end all you lost is time and money.
4. Figure it Out
You will not always be handed a silver platter with the right recipe of doing things, sometime (and often) it is trial and error and it’s up to you to make sure you go through those steps.
3. Make Mistakes
The only way you’ll grow is to make mistakes and grow from them. A key element of life.
2. Laugh at Yourself and Laugh Often
Sometimes when times get tough, the best remedy is laughter. And being able to laugh at yourself releases tension and reminds you that everything is going to be alright.
1. Live and Love
Working in an office with (at one point) 8 men, things can be pretty interesting. From the jokes, the sarcasm, wit, and dry humor one can expect from guys – the passion and love these men have for their jobs is beyond words. They put the care and finesse into their work and at the end of the day, the look they get from knowing that they worked hard to provide to their families is pure satisfaction and gratitude for doing what they love to do.
