Can I Use My Fujifilm GFX100 II on a View Camera?

The answer is … YES.

You can use all the Fujifilm GFX camera bodies on view cameras. And this is a great thing. And the recently released Fujifilm GFX100 II is in this camp as well.

The best setup for a Fujifilm GFX100 II on a view camera (In Our Opinion) is to use a modern view camera from Cambo or Arca Swiss. These modern view camera designs are more finely geared and can accommodate a wider assortment of lenses due to the way in which the camera can be mounted to the back of the Cambo or Arca Swiss view camera body.

Yes, you could potentially use other view cameras, via the Fujifilm View Camera G Adapter, but most other view cameras are legacy products that haven’t ever been updated, have cruder gearing precision, fewer lens options, and have larger rear frames that could mean pushing the Fujifilm GFX100 II camera further away from the lens, in order to accommodate the camera grip, thus restricting view camera lens options on the short side of things because the required flange distance for infinity focus would be reduced.

So what do you need? Minimally, you need an adapter of some sort (ideally provided by the manufacturer of said view camera) to mount the Fujifilm GFX100 II body to the rear standard of the view camera.

In the case of Cambo, and their Actus view cameras, a camera-specific bayonet adapter for the Fuji GFX100 II is available. This adapter also fits all other Fujifilm GFX bodies with the exception of the original Fujifilm GFX100, which has a non-removable grip that requires a deeper bayonet cavity. The Cambo Actus bellows attach to the other side of the holder for the bayonet.

In the case of Arca Swiss, an L Bracket can be included that mounts to the top of the rear standard, which allows the Fujifilm GFX100 II to be attached, and custom bellows can then be fitted to the front of the Fujifilm GFX100 II.

From there, as with most other digital cameras that can mount to these view cameras, there is a wide assortment of lenses that can be paired up (view camera lenses, medium format lenses, even some 35mm lenses with large enough image circles).

In either case, those who have previously used a Fujifilm GFX on a Cambo or Arca Swiss View Camera may wonder about the fit with the new model – the flange distance is the same, the grip for the GFX100 II is slightly larger, so the bellows may have less shift latitude, especially with shorter lenses, but I feel the shift latitude is impacted only a very slight amount if any.

View cameras are the key to complete control over your composition and framing, your perspective and viewpoint. If you have a brand new Fujifilm GFX100 II (or any digital camera, really), why limit yourself?
