CI Client In the News – Larry Shapiro
Great Client, Great Work!
Larry is not only a valued client of over 10 years, but also a good friend. Within this decade of business together, we’ve all had a chance to get to know him, and undoubtedly support and appreciate his love for capturing big rigs. Although we all know Larry for his magnificent documentation of fire rescue trucks, he dabbles in cranes, specialty police vehicles, and even tow trucks. Platypod gave us all a small peak behind the scenes of Larry’s process with their article Platypod For Extremely Low Angles.
Above, is a featured image in the article showing how he uses their mini tripod to get those majestic low angles while keeping his gear safe.
About Larry Shapiro
Shapiro along with his sister Barbara are the proprietors of Shapiro Photography, and have been working together for a combined 30 years. Apart from shooting big rigs, Shapiro also works as an event photographer for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, and corporate events.
He has published a bevy of books including Fighting Fire, Tow Trucks in Action, & Aerial Fire Trucks. Although they do contain plenty of his imagery, they are far from a coffee table picture book. Fighting fire discusses urban, rural, suburban, wildland, industrial and the specialty types of rescues that modern day firefighters need to master. In almost all of his publications you’ll learn the different sizes variations and applications of these rigs, and more. Larry is far more than a truck photographer to his friends at CI, but nonetheless he is iconic for it.
In case it is not yet obvious, I enjoy trucks. Big fancy work trucks to be exact. Tow Trucks in Action is another example of my fascination with a different kind of specialty vehicle.
Upon seeing one of Ernie’s big red Peterbilts at a recovery scene, I approached the publisher about a book featuring these big rigs working, instead of another book of static truck shots.
I traveled around the country hooking up (no pun intended) with many big private towers (that’s toe-ers) and many unique public agencies that provide towing services. It’s really an interesting book if you can still find a copy.
